What is Physical Therapy?

There are occasions where a doctor might prescribe Physical Therapy. Say you’ve had an injury or been sick and things you used to do regularly have now become more difficult. A Physical Therapist (or PT), is a doctor that specializes in getting you back in the game, whether it’s an actual sport, beloved past time or just a daily task.

Physical Therapy is a unique combination of science, procedures and modalities. Treatments or therapy on muscles, joints and bones can include modalities such as ultrasound, electric stimulation, iontophoresis, ice and moist heat. Emphasis is on therapeutic exercises and manual therapy techniques to treat injuries to muscles, joints and bones. Physical Therapists will determine a customized treatment plan based upon specific patient goals.
